Shampoo is definitely the newcomer to the soap world, with liquid shampoo only making it's entrance in 1927, invented by German inventor Hans Schwarzkopf in Berlin. Prior to this, shampoos were generally made from fruit pulps and herbs added to water and used as more of a scrub than anything else. One of the first recorded uses of shampoo dates back to the ancient era in the Indian Subcontinent, where a mixture of boiled Sapindus and Indian gooseberry was widely used. The Sapindus (otherwise known as soapberries or soapnuts) contained saponins which were the natural surfactants which we have replaced with synthetic surfactants such as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate.

Our shampoo bars do not contain Sodium Lauryl Sulfate as it is a very harsh over cleanser, which is to say that it does its job wonderfully as long as the usage of the shampoo bar remains highly frequent and consistent, instead we use Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate. Made with very gentle, environmentally friendly surfactants, topped off with Argan oil and Mango Butter, you'll likely discover that with our shampoo bars, you need far less conditioner than before!
